Tag scores: why cheap fabric wins
Style tags decide whether a dress meets a client's brief, and they come almost entirely from fabric. A player pulled the real numbers from the game files on build 410, and the headline is uncomfortable for your wallet: expensive fabric does not score higher.
The tested best buys
For 18 of the 22 style tags, the best-scoring fabric is on sale from the start, usually a 10 gold cotton or wool. Only four tags reward waiting: Shimmering tops out at 50 with rank-2 sequins, and Elegant, Eveningwear and Formal reach 59 on Absynthe Lace at shop rank 14.

Where you place it matters
A fabric's tag score is split by dress part, not by area. That makes the bodice the cheap place to use a high-score fabric: a small cut doing a third of the work. Requirements written as “at least X% of a fabric” go by area instead, and there the skirt is almost everything.

Burlap, the exception
Burlap is free and the only fabric tagged Uncomfortable. It drags most other tags down, so keep it for prototypes, money dresses and the rare commission that caps your quality. Yes, those exist: at least one client literally asks for a dress that is not too good.
